how to bring today’s trends to your home

Last month, I covered .  Of course, following the trends comes with a price tag.  It’s often not cheap to buy the latest and greatest!  Today, I thought I would show you easy, inexpensive ways to incorporate the latest trends into your home.

Let’s kick it off with the first trend – gray is here to stay.  Remember that you can get this look with limed or cerused wood … but also with paint!  Design*Sponge has two great how-to guides – one on dry brush painting and another on whitewashing (or gray-washing or whatever color you choose).

Sleepy Poet Lane Gray Table

Because I’m not too much of a do-it-yourselfer, I suggest taking the easy way out … looking for a piece that someone has already done for you!  I scored this gray distressed table from Lane Furniture at Sleepy Poet for a client.  I promise that the finish is way more attractive than it looks in this green-tinted iPhone photo.

Let’s move on to the next trend – everything old is new again.  If the vintage look is what you are after, I say go straight to the source!  For that, there isn’t a better place to start than Sleepy Poet … or, if you don’t live in Charlotte, a local antiques mall or eBay.  I’d been ogling these decanters from Bamboo (one of Sleepy Poet’s most fabulous booths) for quite some time …

Matters of Style Blog Decanters from Sleepy Poet

… but after their appearance on Matters of Style, decided that I had to have one (oh, and some matching barware).  As an FYI, Bamboo is one booth that is always a sure thing at Sleepy Poet (and Post & Gray) … but of course, many other booths have amazing vintage finds as well.

The third trend is the use of saturated colors.  Accessories are such a great way to add color without breaking the bank!

Elegant Touch Duralee Ikat Pillow

Elegant Touch Blue Pillows

You can always find great pillows on etsy in shops like Elegant Touch (which is located in nearby Columbia, South Carolina).

Williams Sonoma Home Cashmere Throw

Add a colorful throw – Williams-Sonoma Home has a fantastic range of colors! – and some interesting objects – like from West Elm …

West Elm Small Stacked Boxes

… and you are all set!

At this point, you’ve probably already incorporated the next trend – hello, pattern! – but just in case, I found this kilim pillow at Pottery Barn for you.

Pottery Barn Hand Knotted Pillow Covers

On to our last trend – everything that glitters is not gold.  If you haven’t already incorporated some metallic materials into your decor, now is the perfect time!

West Elm Gilded Grasscloth Pillow

West Elm Frosted Foil Pillow Cover

I love the gilded grasscloth pillow and the frosted foil pillow from West Elm.  So chic and affordable!!  I think I need to make a trip to West Elm.

How will you be bringing the latest trends into your home?
