“word to the wise” wednesday: tom scheerer

I cringe when I hear people say they hate brown.  The color of chocolate, trees, and Josephine Baker?  Please!  Every house can use a chocolate brown room.  It creates a sense of coziness that other dark colors don’t.

Tom Scheerer (House Beautiful, November 2012)

Dark walls — but not so much chocolate ones — were all over the High Point showrooms.  And those twins-just-learning-to-walk fingerprints aren’t quite so visible.

Would you do dark walls?  If so, what color?

I love Tom and love every design that he does. I read somewhere that he was working on a book with Mimi Read but I haven't read anything about it since - I hope it still happens. I have done a dark color and I would do it again, but it would need to be the right room with plenty of natural light.

Gorgeous room but I might hesitate a bit on all brown walls even though I love brown and use it throughout my home. In fact, recently redid my fireplace and chose brown marble vs. the more popular black granite that you can see the before and after on my blog. The darkest I went on the walls was a rich butterscotch color in the den that is pretty dark but certainly yummy!

Such a beautiful room! I don't mind using dark colors in homes one bit! Donna
