“word to the wise” wednesday: lynda reeves

There are reasons why black is so perfect for us now.  In a modern wardrobe that is all about layers, black is an essential element.  In fact, it’s the staple color for many of us.  The same holds true in our decorating repertoire.  We need black basics to throw into the mix.

Lynda Reeves (as quoted in House & Home, January 2011)

Do you use black in your home?

I just looked around, and no I guess I don't have black in my home. But I have A LOT of greys and charcoals so maybe that helps. Those pillows on that couch are fantastic!

I painted our guest bathroom black last year. The walls have white beadboard going half-way up the walls. So the black isn't overwhelming. I also made a black & white shower curtain using fabric from Calico Corners, Cassandra. I brought it all the way up to the ceiling to make the room look taller. I think it turned out pretty nice. What do you think? http://havenandhome.blogspot.com/2009/10/when-black-works.html

I do have black pieces in my home, a few tables. Now my wardrobe, on the other hand, is filled with black! Happy Holidays Traci!
