“word to the wise” wednesday: leon max

I don’t really want a chair I can’t sit on.  All the tables should be old, and all the chairs should be new if one can help it.

— Leon Max

Isn’t that an interesting way to think about incorporating vintage pieces into your home?  It’s a perfect “form plus function” recipe for a family with young children.

Leon Max is the fashion entrepreneur who launched Max Studio and recently renovated Easton Neston, the English country house designed in 1702 by Nicolas Hawksmoor.  See the home in the May 2012 issue of Architectural Digest.

My designer said the same thing (in essence) when we were selecting furniture for my house. She loves chairs, and does use antique chairs, but more as accessories than anything else. We were looking at Dennis & Leen chairs for the living room, because they are beautiful and because they can actually be used!

So true, chairs have to be comfortable!! x Maria ps. by the way the cab driver mailed me my wallet? How you could have missed it or I could have left in there after I'd paid is beyond me :)

Love this quote! (Especially, the gracious, "if one can help it". :) It's wonderful when beauty and function can meet, but I like your perspective (and Max's) that if the important things "work", then we can intersperse a bit of "don't touch" here and there.
