Many people assume that there’s no color in a room if you haven’t plastered chintz over everything. That’s not true. My rooms, which everyone thinks are creamy and white, are filled with color, but the colors don’t scream. I work in subtle shades of color and variations of patterns rather than in big blocks of solids and prints. I wouldn’t normally go for high contrasts or conspicuous matching. … Don’t get me wrong about yellow, red, or blue – I love them. They can play a role in any color scheme, but should do so in a quiet way.
