It’s been a rough few years for the prepsters among us. Buffy, Muffy and Bif were positively buried in a sea of boho chic. But the good news for my friends sporting seersucker and Lilly Pulitzer is that – even in interior design – preppy is back!
Truly, this trend kicked off last October with the launch of Lilly Pulitzer Home … but this spring, everyone else is on board. A perfect example is this Concord Chair from C.R. Laine.
While the style of the chair is completely traditional (perhaps Buffy’s grandmother gave it to her), Buffy totally updated the chair by upholstering it in an oversized plaid and painting the frame a kelly green. Of course, the green chair gets that extra pop with a yellow pillow (purchased in Kiawah, natch). Love!
Who wouldn’t adore a room with these twin beds from Hickory Chair? The Artisan Poster Bed was interpreted from a simple pencil post bed in the Hickory Chair archives – but now you can choose a high or low headboard in either upholstery or wood. Here, the combination of the blue and white bedding with the red painted chair gives the space a bit of nautical flair.
Both C.R. Laine and Hickory Chair give you the option of choosing any Benjamin Moore color for their painted finishes. Selecting the perfect color is one perk to working with a designer!
Need something for the walls? Well, Soicher-Marin introduced a series of Yacht Blueprints – taken directly from the archive of a yacht builder. Aren’t they stunning?
But if you’d rather go riding (English style, I assume) than sailing, perhaps you should take a peek at this.
Ralph Lauren, perhaps the ultimate purveyor of preppy chic, introduced a new lighting collection through Visual Comfort. How fantastic is this chandelier with the horse bit detailing? I am smitten … even though I haven’t ridden since I was a child.
Personally, I have always been more of a preppy dresser than a preppy designer … but I love all of these pieces. Will you incorporate the preppy trend in your home?
