“word to the wise” wednesday: miles redd

What’s nice about being on your own is you’re in control.  Every good decorator is a little bit of a control freak.  When you’re in control, if you don’t click with someone, you don’t have to accept them as clients.  Decorating is about personality.  I love the people I work with.

Miles Redd (New York magazine, September 22, 2003)

A year or so ago, I was chatting with a fabulous client and — between the two of us — we somehow coined the phrase “cool people doing cool things.”  As in, we really only want to work with “cool people doing cool things.”   But I consider that more “common sense” than “control freak.”  Nonetheless, I am so lucky to work with really cool people who do really cool things.

A few of the super-cool people I’m currently working with?  Trellis Studio to create my new fabric line, Whitney English for brand consulting, Dustin Peck for photography, the Tobi Fairley Business Solutions team on, well, everything, Arcadia Homes on a gorgeous home under construction, and more than a few incredible clients.  Three cheers for them!

Do you have a “cool” recommendation?  Please share, and let’s support them together!

Looooove this quote! As a beginning designer, I find it really comforting to see you share this. There were a few potential clients where things just didn't feel "right", and I'm glad I stuck with my gut. I can't wait to see your fabric line!!
