They don’t come any cuter than this boy / girl twin pair … and isn’t it perfectly appropriate that she’s in stripes and he’s in plaid (peeking out of his sweater)? Stripes and plaids just might be the fraternal twins of patterns!
I bet that little sweetheart — when she gets to be a “big girl” — would love this darling room, designed by my friend and super-talented designer Liz Carroll. Stripes on the ceiling? Yes!
Twin brother, on the other hand, would be right at home in this very-boy-yet-still-sophisticated room, designed by equally super-talented designer Naomi Stein. Plaid bedding? Yes! Plaid may sound boring, but Naomi shows you that it doesn’t have to be.
Plaids and stripes together? Absolutely yes! After all, fraternal twins are just as much fun as identicals. I’ve always loved this bathroom, designed by Sheila Bridges. The plaid and striped color scheme in gender-neutral red and aqua (my favorite combo!) would work beautifully in a shared boy/girl bedroom.
What’s your vote — stripes, plaid or both?

I’m loving plaid in fresh ways (not western interiors, like I see all the time around here). I’m so glad it is on it’s way back! Especially for boys.
Thanks for sharing my work Traci! I love stripes and plaid, and am especially loving that last image you posted with the mix of both! …and those two kiddos just can’t get any cuter!!
Plaids are definitely back and I love them. Love them together, preppy and fun.
