rising to the challenge; please vote!

Have I given you enough time to wonder?  The deadline for the Centennial Design Challenge from Hickory Chair is fast-approaching, and I finally submitted my entry — an interpretation of the Suzanne Kasler Tuxedo Armoire / Entertainment Center.  Hickory Chair already makes versions of this gorgeous piece as a Tuxedo Chest and a Tuxedo Bar Cabinet … but I wanted to turn the Tuxedo Armoire on its side so that it could function as a Media Cabinet and Sideboard.

As attractive as televisions have gotten (hallelujah for the flat screen), I don’t always want to see them.  In my own home, we have a great room — which is where we spend time as a family and where we entertain.  In a moment of weakness (I was four weeks postpartum and remember it was twins!), I agreed to hang a flat screen on the wall above our sideboard … and the room has never been the same since.  Please don’t misunderstand — I love the room, and I don’t hate the television … but I would really love a gorgeous piece of art there instead.  If only I could hide the television when I wanted it to hide … and pop it out when I wanted to watch, well, that would be the best of both worlds!!

And that was the inspiration for “my” Tuxedo Media Cabinet.  With a hidden mechanized lift and a discrete partial “flip top,”, the Media Cabinet is a beautiful piece of furniture.  You are able to display art behind it and attractive objets on top of it.   Hiding ever so sneakily behind the doors is a rear cabinet for a large flat screen television along with shelves for components and drawers for storage.

Of course, if you want to use the Media Cabinet in a dining room or other room that isn’t hiding a television, you could order it simply as the Tuxedo Sideboard.

I’m so happy with how it turned out.  Voting extends through September 15th, and you can vote on each entry once during the competition.  At that time, the top vote-getters will be turned over the panel of expert judges.

So here’s where you come in:  I’ll love you forever if you vote for my entry, the Suzanne Kasler Tuxedo Media Cabinet / Sideboard.  Ok, I already love you all, but I would really, really appreciate it!   You may have to “like” the Hickory Chair Facebook page (if you don’t already — and trust me, you should) before you can see all of the entries and where to vote.

Pretty please?  Just click here and give the “thumb’s up” to the Suzanne Kasler Tuxedo Media Cabinet / Sideboard.  Merci beaucoup!

I also owe a big thanks to Bryant for his assistance in rendering my entry!
